Wisconsin No. 6 in initial BCS standings

  • Not too happy about the initial rankings, but Wisconsin still has work to put in before it's even relevant.

  • It was thought that UW would be 6th. I don't agree with it one bit, as I think they should be 4th as their other rankings suggest, but that is what happens when you allow computers to determine championships instead of playing it out on the field. Just keep winning and let everything play out...

  • A LOT of football to be played. These rankings will change.

    Wisconsin. Badgers.

  • I expected 6 and expect to move up as long as Wisconsin wins, but I still cannot understand some of these computer rankings. Va Tech is currently ahead of us in the computers and their best win is either Miami or Wake Forest. Even Stanford has yet to beat a team above .500 but they find themselves substantially ahead of UW. Now obviously this schedule has not been that challenging, but you would think an undefeated record and a win against a top 15 team would at least get you in the top 10.

  • The problem is that UW now has to jump over 3 teams instead of two. The likelihood of them jumping LSU/Alabama or OU/OSU and Boise, is pretty much impossible. BSU would be first because of their schedule. UW's schedule would keep them behind either of the 4 other teams. The likely scenario is two of those four playing and a UW/BSU matchup of the other undefeated, if they win out.

  • So who would we rather see? Stanford or Oregon? That's a tough one. One is all gimmicky and really fast paced. The other is like us, just with the top NFL pick next year. Tough call.

  • I am honestly not concerned about getting left out of the MNC if they run the table and go 13-0. The BSC has a horseshoe up its arse and its likely someone will dump an unexpected game to push UW in to the title game. OSU is bound to blow a game with that D, Arkansas could be a torn in the side of LSU or Bama, lots of great chances for people to falter, plus UW will just BSU after the cpu's update throughout the year.

  • the thing I always hated with the computers is how they use the schedule to determine a teams worth. Especially when it still doesn't make sense after you look at who teams ahead of us played. I will be the first to admit the some of this is our own fault. At the same time with our early conference schedule a game with Oregon St. should have been sufficient. We didn't know that they would suck that bad.

  • The two games against OSU and MSU are going to be huge for the computers with both being most likely ranked road games assuming we win of course.

I believe we have 4 road games left correct? Plus B10 championship game (assuming) which is a neutral field game. I think we can hop Boise pretty easily. I'm pretty confident that we will be in the MNC as long as we win out.

I really do not want to look ahead but I agree with this completely, only scenario where we do not make the MNC would be a Big XII/SEC matchup of undefeateds. And if the time comes and there are 3+ undefeated teams (excluding Boise), it will be chaos; 4, and all you have to say is bye bye BCS.

I just pray OK State does not make the MNC. I was very unimpressed by their performance against Texas who looked very mediocre. I think LSU/Bama would absolutely abuse them.

Hopefully these rankings give the Badgers even more of an edge going into MSU, having another big-time performance on national television would do a lot to boost them in the human polls to help make up for the computers.

  • The BCS rankings are a bunch of horse manure! There is a lot of football left to be played, I just hope we don't get screwed by the computers!

  • Does anybody really know how the computers work?

Is it mostly the rank of who you played, and that is based on who they played? soley on records and who they played to get those records, and who those teams played to get those records, etc. I think all that is BS. there still needs to be perception of reality.

  • UW will have a very difficult time making the BCS championship game even if we go undefeated. The winner of the Alabama/LSU game will most likely go undefeated and the winner of the Oklahoma/OKstate will be the other undefeated team to play in the Championship game. For Wisconsin to play in the championship game one more of those 4 need to lose and something has to happen to Boise st.

Nothing has to happen to Boise State. We will for sure jump them. They are a non-issue.

  • I think there is also a possibility that 1-loss SEC team gets in over UW. But again still plenty of time before this is even relevant. UW has to take care of business first.

  • People need to relax. Assuming we continue to win (*knock on wood*), this is THE worst our BCS ranking is going to look all year. Our schedule is currently ranked the lowest it will be for the rest of the season and as someone who (barely) understands how the computers work, I will tell you that road games also make a difference and ALL of ours (other than NIU which was more a neutral site game) are upcoming. Don't worry about it. Also, Stanford, BSU and OSU are non-factors as far as legitimate threats to passing/staying ahead of us and we will see that before the end of the year.
