I will believe it when I see it, and its not that UW doesn't want it. The SEC knows it could have 2 teams in the NC playoff, so why would they chance it and schedule a team like UW, where they could lose or play a close game against UW and lose ground with the voters? I would respect Bama if they would do it, but I would guess SEC would tell its members not to do it, cause it can only damage the conference. People are trying to catch them, if they take the safe path and play nobody, they will still be out in front.
(1) By the time such a game actually happens the computer modelling will be much more advanced--SOS will be more accurately implemented. It would not shock me if writers and coaches impacts are reduced.
(2) Did that worry them when they scheduled Michigan?
(3) The playoffs will be expanded by this point to probably 8 teams. 2-losses can still make that group.
(4) Damage the conference? What's more likely here: (a) ALA wins decisively (b) ALA wins close game (c) WISC wins decisively (b) WISC wins close game? 75% of the odds go to (a) and (b). If (c) happens, the storyline will be 'plucky big 10 team finds nut'. (d) is never going to happen unless something dramatic upsets ALA program (i.e. sanctions). They have too many players coming in every year due to oversigning.
Rowwell, what it comes down to is a business decision, if they don't play each other, who has better chance of going to the playoffs? Yes it would be great if they played, but Bama doesn't need UW . You say in the 4 point, that a and b would happen 75% of the time, but if b happens, and the team that if fighting UW for a spot, gets hammered by Bama, who gets that spot? I agree with 75% but its 75% could go wrong.
Your 2nd point, I would like to find out when they put that game together? Your 3rd point, yea things would change, but I will wait til that happens.
The sec doesn't have to fear anything playing us. This year we would get scorched by half the conference. Last year would have been very interesting. Without a good line and good Qb it would be tough to score on Ala. and many of the other top teams in the sec.
