If God dwells inside us, like some people say, I sure hope He likes enchiladas, because that's what He's getting
good article. really hope BA doesn't settle.
"When I get said, I stop being said and be awesome again. True Story." - Barney Stinson
You know BA isn't going to make that big hire. He's to old school. A lot of people will be disappointed. The coach he hires is going to be a coach that'll need to develope for a couple years. UW has an athletic department That is rich as shit but is to stubborn to spend the money. It's going to be the same song and dance with UW football, we'll never reach that national power.
The thing about BB I liked is he wanted to make the Badger brand a national brand and National Title contender. Whereas, BA was fine with a Rose Bowl game and a regional brand. That makes me wonder if he will make a big splash as well. This could be the first hire BA has had to make that requires him going outside the program.
I read the article and it's what I've been saying from the start. The Big Ten, beyond the helmet schools, is cheap. I kept getting texts about how BA was old school and going to do it the right way. Wonderful, It's a good thing he has all this experience hiring coaches in his revenue sports. I hope he gets a young guy who can recruit pretty well while developing an identity and a brand. Oh wait, we just lost him.
I couldn't believe what he said about assistant pay. For years national media, including the very friendly BTN, made note of the disparity in assistant quality between the Big Ten and other conferences. Acting like nothing is wrong is why the Big Ten got passed by the SEC and others. Times change and we have not kept up.
Hopefully we get a good coach...but not too good or we won't be able to keep him or his staff around.
"We don't care about anything but winning. No one cares about ethical standards thats for losers..."
BUCKNUTS 21 self trolling.
I'm holding out hope for CP or Golden, but its not looking good.
Its looking like a small name hire. Give it a chance though. PSU hired a complete unknown named Bill O'Brien. He ended up winning B1G COY and took a very average 8-4 PSU team under sanctions to an 8-4 record. If not for his coaching that team is likely a 5-7 team. PSU made a good hire, albeit at the time not a popular one (everyone wanted Bradley, or Golden, or someone with PSU ties. Most PSU fans were outraged an outsider and unknown guy was hired. Now they love him).
Basically, while I'd prefer a name like Petersen or Golden, I won't throw the new guy under the bus. I believe its wrong to bash a new coach before he even coaches a game.
The only exception is Childress. He is not a good coach, college or NFL. He just does not have the personality to be a good HC. Fortunately, I think his name was more speculation due to his UW ties than Barry actually being interested in him.
My pick at this point would be Mel Tucker. I think he's a really good fit for UW. With him we could probably keep some of the old staff and he'd be cool with Barry being involved, young, and can probably recruit. Seems like he "fits".
RoseBowl, I agree if UW can't get Peterson that is a route UW could take. Most everybody would stay on staff, so most recruits if not all would stay committed.
