Uthoff transfer?

  • It's just another play for the media who have been adamant on tearing Bo and his 'system' down for the last 5 years. I really don't see the bashing having any effect that the media hasn't already had.

What frustrates me is that the media doesn't get UW's side to the story that Uthoff gave no warning, jumped ship the day after signing day, and then went to the media to back him up. Like I said on my twitter, he's 19 years old and made the decision, now needs to deal with the LEGAL repercussions.

  • I don't get how how unprepared JU seems to be to transfer. I mean he doesn't even know the conference transfer rule that if you transfer within the Big Ten you can't get a scholarship at that school. The primary difference between the 3 and 4 at Wisconsin is really the defensive assignment. So he's transferring because he didn't want to put on an extra 10-15 lbs? Wherever he goes he'll more than likely end up as a 4, at least some of the time.

I just get the sense that JU didn't completely think this through, no inside info just me thinking out loud.

But, it's not the media's fault for now getting UW's side of the story. The University has been incredibly silent on the matter. Bo Ryan should speak up about this, and give their side of the story. But, I completely agree with the first part of your post, the media has taken every opportunity to bash Coach Ryan's style of play and now this and it's yet to work. Recruits that want to come here are still going to come here.

Not only defensive assignment but Bo was actually doing him a favor by moving him to the 4 because the 4, 5, and 1 are the players involved in the ball swing in most of the sets.

  • Wow, this ESPN guy, that I've never heard of, is infuriating. He confidently talks about facts that he gets all wrong. Bo didn't restrict Uthoff from the Big 10. That's an automatic rule. So that's 12 out of the 25 schools. And we don't even know for sure about the ACC thing. For all we know, it could just be Virginia.

It's not Northern Iowa, it's Iowa State.

  • I posted this on Virginia's board...

It's not uncommon for a coach to block a player from transferring to a potential opponent. Yes, it's one game, but the ACC and Big 10 play every year. Bo has never allowed a player to transfer to Marquette...in-state school and a yearly opponent.

The only thing that makes NO sense is the fact Bo restricted Iowa State.

There are 345 schools competing in the NCAA (hoops). That leaves 320 schools for Jarrod to choose from. Yes, 320 schools!! This is being blown WAY out of proportion in my opinion.

Agree with everything you say Kyle. We have to figure in who has open scholarships but still.

On the Big 1070 this afternoon they were defending the Iowa State restriction by saying they compete with us for recruits... That's the only possible defense, but it's not a very good one.

  • I give Bo credit for the options he has... If was him and this kid took a year of scholarship as a redshirt that he won't earn on the court (when he was in the future plans), negatively impacted two years of recruiting, and bailed the day after signing day, he wouldn't be going to any major conference... Really, he should have to pay his way for a year somewhere else.

  • Wisconsin's Ryan way out of bounds with transfer restrictions on Uthoff - NCAA Division I Mens Basketball - CBSSports.com News, Scores, Stats, Schedule and RPI Rankings

When a top recruit leaves a program, Jeff Goodman understands a coach putting a few schools off-limits as transfer options. But he says Wisconsin's Bo Ryan is completely out of line with Jarrod Uthoff's list: two leagues, 25 schools.
