  • Dominican and Diamond Stone made it as well. Should be a great field Badger fans in this year's state tournament. Hopefully Onalaska gets by Antigo later today, and Matt Thomas will join the party. I am very excited to see Dekker, as I have never had a chance to see him play in person.

  • What do you guys think dekkers number would be if he was playing on a D1 or D2 team? Much Difference?

I'd say 18 to 20 points per game.

If he's not on that team, Lutheran maybe wins 5 games this season. He was double and triple teamed the entire second half.

    Wisconsin. Badgers.

    KyleHeikkinen

  • I saw that he got snubbed for the McDonald's All-Star game, do you guys think he gets invited to any All Star game? Secondly, do you think he has any impact for UW next year?

I might go higher. He's still the best player in the state and one of the best in the country regardless of where he plays. He's proved that in the AAU circuit.

I believe he has already said he will play in a couple of all-star games. Article at madison.com about a month ago.

  • Evan, Kyle, Ole, Anyone else who really follows high school basketball,

Do you think Dekker will contribute early? What will be his best attributes early is in his career? It seems like he is great going to the rim as well as pulling up for a jumper at the high school level. Do you think he will be able to get to the rack against Big Ten defenses early on in his career? He doesn't necessarily look frail, but he is by no means physically imposing in any way. What are your thoughts?

  • Today was the first time I watched an actual game, but I came away a tad disappointed actually.

His skill set and potential is obvious, but he still has a ways to go before he's a big contributor, IMO.

I say that mostly because I was unimpressed by his D, and he was pretty sloppy in general on offense. I don't see any way he guards the two in the Big Ten, either, as many have speculated.

But, that was based off one game, and you can see how with more work and better coaching he's going to be a star... He just might not light the world on fire right away as some expect, could take him a year or two.

  • Personally, I think Sam will play as a freshman. He has too many skills for a player his size to sit on the bench. His ability to handle the ball and his court vision make him a likely candidate to contribute early.

You can tell he's played some AAU ball, but his flare is something Wisconsin hasn't seen in a while.

According to a poster on TOS, Dekker is told to avoid contact and not exert himself on defense. He estimated that Dekker is giving 40-50% effort. He is their entire offense, so I guess it makes sense.

I don't think you can evaluate Sam's defense based on his HS games. That team really is not very good without him, certainly far below a state championship caliber team, so any foul trouble for Sam really puts the team in bad spot. He can't play much defense and put himself at risk of fouls if he team is going to win. I think it's fair to say that he will get need to get stronger and play better defense at the next level, but that's much different than saying he can't play defense. Also, I don't see him guarding 2s. I think he's a proto-typical 3, who can also slide down and play a little 4 against a smaller lineup.

I was very impressed with Dekker's skill level on offense. His perimeter shot is OK and it presumably will improve during his time in Madison, but it should be good enough early on to keep the defense honest. He really is good going to the bucket and finishing with either hand. I also really like his passing. He and Koenig, who is also an excellent passer, should be really fun to watch in the coming seasons. Dekker was not as skinny as I was expecting. He'll certainly need to get stronger, but he won't be like Butch when he came in. I am really hoping he is able to earn some decent minutes next season, as he would add a dimension to UW's offense that is not there this season.

  • I think he's the next coming of Robbie Hummel. Maybe a little more athletic than Robbie at the same age.

That would make a lot of sense, I was going to say it looked like he wasn't trying on D, but you never want to say that about someone.

  • Dekker just nailed a fade away three pointer with his team down two with about 3 seconds left to win the state championship.

  • I can barely contain my excitement. Zak, Dekker, Bronson the next class plus possibly a combo of Washington, Semi, Jeter? That sounds nice, I'll have that.
