  • Well in my opinion if O'Brien heads to PSU I think the Leaders is up for grabs. We may have a better O-line and running back this year but at the most important position on the field we may turn to a redshirt freshmen walk-on to lead the offense. Pretty scary stuff. Unless of course Phillips recovers from his third ACL and leads us to a conference championship.

I think there are a lot of question marks on both teams. For the most part we both have new coaching staffs and new terminology on offense. PSU should be able to adjust on defense as they have two returning coaches. I don't know enough about their returning personnel to make a significant judgement either way other than they have had decent recruiting classes in the last few years and should have some depth. Also, no one knows how their change in the S&C program will effect the results on the field. Paterno was notorious for favoring undersized linemen.

You guys have a new offensive staff too. Details on how he will develop better under your new coaches please. I think a guy that supposedly was "under" Tom Brady is better than most QB coaches in college football.

It's hilarious how you couldn't even calm your homerism enough to properly respond to an actual, legitimate post from BADGERfanINohio.

Anyway, I really don't know why the UW guys are trying to have a rational discussion. PSU fans have unfortunately returned to what appears to be their default setting. They are just like those of MSU and OSU, except maybe a bit more like OSU with their superiority complex and/or hypersensitivity. However, I will say that their delusions of grandeur are almost second to none - I was very pro-PSU and their resurgence until they recently reminded the world why people scoff at PSU's fanbase.

PSU is on its way back, but, as it has been already said, there is no doubt or argument about which team is currently sitting in a better position. Accept it, as well as the fact that your new coaching staff is no different than any other new staff and the challenges that they will face. The only difference is that our new staff members aren't pretending to be responsible for the success of someone like Tom Brady. But then again, if prospects are dumb enough to fall for it, more power to you. You guys should again be a contender in the next few years, but for some reason you fail to realize that you're just starting out on that journey.

Let's remember that O'Brien isn't all that. He's just an upgrade over what either team has now. He's not Wilson out Cousins. Not even Stanzi IMO. He should be good but he won't vault PSU to the top of the Leaders this year.

  • Forgot about this thread.. so sorry for the delay

First BuckyLuv, not sure if you're responding to us or not but we can't see VIP from your board FWIW.

Regarding the better coaching. Yes at this point I'd say PSU has slightly better coaching at the QB position considering the emphasis BOB said he'll give on personal coaching. Both QB coaches are from the MAC and we'll see how they transition to coaching in big time football.

I haven't said one time that PSU is better than Wisconsin going into next season. I've been arguing the fact that Wisconsin has a better situation for DOB.

I love Redd, but I've said all along that Ball/White/your line are better than we can even hope for this year. WR's are a wash at this point. We need DOB to beat you guys and he seriously gives us a very good chance at winning the Leaders if he comes because not only will the PSU QB position upgrade but it also means you guys didn't get him. If we somehow don't get him, have fun winning the Leaders by default because I don't see you having any competition if we're stuck with McGloin/Bolden and OSU a non-factor.

I don't think DOB is a savior or elite and I said as much on our board the other day, but he is leaps and bounds above what PSU has now. Our QB's were possibly the worst in the conference last year, but a lot of that was masked by Redd and some other supporting cast.

And to the above post, I'm not giving credit to BOB for Brady. However I would argue that he probably has more knowledge at this point coaching the position than your new OC and BOB has said how much he plans to work individually with the QB as I mentioned above.

I apologize for generalizing PSUfan28 - obviously much of what I said doesn't apply to you. Although it looks like you're overvaluing BOB quite a bit as a QB developer, you've been discussing things in a civilized and rational manner the entire time. The problem is that many other PSU fans don't share the same sentiment and are quickly traveling down the same path as the OSU fans who have pretty much planned a championship parade before the 2012 season has even started, all because of Urban Meyer.

True but they managed to win 9 games last year with absolutely terrible QB play.

    1. I am not the one that made an arguement FOR a developmental advantage and
    2. We still have our HEAD coach, not sure if thats important, but Im going to guess it is.
