QB transfers expected in Madison

Bret Bielema and the Wisconsin Badgers are expecting to host two highly touted quarterback transfers this week.

    Wisconsin. Badgers.

  • Is this Penn State thing a Bill O'Brien fascination? Is he all of sudden getting credit for Tom Brady being good? This guy has no head coaching experience.

Just looking at both depth charts for the next two years it seems like a no brainer to go to Madison, despite the mess that will still be hovering over State College.

BOB is definitely off to a good starting recruiting for PSU. He has been showing a lot of film from his days in NE from what we gather as fans.

PSU is just as bad off as Wisconsin when it comes to QBs. Sure PSU has guys with plenty of experience, but they are all really subpar.

He's talking about the rest of the team, not QBs. UW much better off this year and next.

I think it's relatively easy to get over the "never been a head coach" stigma. If a kid brings it up, just talk to them about how everyone had to start somewhere. Charlie Weis had never been a HC before, and kids loved him.

And I'm not sure how our depth chart is any better. We've got a former walk-on, a guy with zero confidence (threw multiple passes into the ground last year), and a guy who has struggled to stay academically eligible his entire time at PSU. In fact, I'm pretty sure this semester is the first one where he's been eligible.

I gotcha. Obviously you're running game and line will be better, but won't your receivers take a step back without Toon?

In what way? lol Our receivers are better, we have Adam Breneman coming in next year, and Silas Redd is about to break out... And BOB's offense is a QBs dream... In what way are you overwhelmingly better?

I'd say there running game will be better. Silas is very good, but they have a superior line and Ball/White is a sick combo. I am waiting for an answer on the receivers though, which is more important for a QB.

Yeah, I'd agree. Their OLine will probably be awesome, but I have no idea- as Im not a Wiscy fan... And Ball is a monster. But Silas is no slouch. I just think he's under-rated on the national scale so far. But I think with BOB that will change. But our recievers are DEF superior, and BOB's offense fits him. And we all saw what happened when Edsal changed his offense last year. Looking forward to having a capable QB and then playing you guys from Madison. Good luck to you guys.

  • BTW, who the heck is your OC now? That could obviously be a factor... Pitt's new HC had a lot to do with your offensive success... DOB is a pretty smart kid.

Silas is a very good player, but until he learns to break away Ball is on another level.

Agreed. But I don't think Silas is far away... Also, lanes open up when you can actually throw the ball. Last year was just special. Wilson is no longer there. He made everyone better- including Ball. But again, Ball is a beast. Silas will have a break out year if we get DOB. Mark me down as saying that.

Is your arguement really highlighted by a kid that is going to be coming in NEXT YEAR and followed by ABOUT TO HAVE A BREAKOUT YEAR? Who the F knows who is going to have a breakout year; I guess we could just name some receivers and same, yup, well he is gonna have a break out year.

Ur gonna need to bring a little more than that when comparing to a team that is bringing back a leading heisman contender and will once again, like always, have a great O-line. If you want to argue WRs, I bet JA has as good of stats as WR on your team.

The new OC is Matt Canada who held the same position at Northern Illinois.

Of course he prob. has good/better stats than our WRs. Did you see who our QBs have been the past 2 years while you had Russel Wilson last year?

I am not going to argue because Wisky is a good team, but I see pros and cons to both of our respective schools. The kid is going to go where he and his mother feel most comfortable.

We are very, very, very young at Wide reciever. I have no clue who will be starting come the first game of the season outside of Abby.

Alright thanks for the response. Back to the OP, I can understand where the depth chart would look like a "no-brainer" for a running back, but not sure it's quite that for a QB. Sure a running game helps, but I'd probably give the coaching advantage to PSU at this point from a developmental perspective. Not saying either would be a bad choice, but neither is a runaway choice either.

  • Last year's score was 45-7 and in reality wasn't even that close. Make whatever adjustments you want for your personnel improving, PSU is still inferior. Getting better though. The Leaders is going to be tough in the future.

You played a PSU team that just went through the worst scandal in CFB, lost its head coach of 46 years, lost another coach on staff, had no real leadership, had a division 3 QB, playing away and so on...Yes you dominated the game, but I wouldnt look at that score as a big determination of your "superiority" over PSU from now and into the future.

You just lost what? half your staff? maybe more? We also had one of our worst recruiting years this year and I do not think we were to far behind you guys (if we were behind).

I would not bet on PSU being so inferior as you put it as PSU does have talent on the team. The question is if our new coaching staff, which is filled witg talent, college and NFL experience, national championships, Super Bowl, and energy.

The previous 2 times we played you before this year we won 48-7, year before that 38-7..

Just interested to hear why you think PSU has an advantage developmentally when they have all new coaches? Details please. And the coach was working under, yes I said working UNDER Brady, does not mean he can develop players.

I really dont feel like bitching back and forth but I have to say something because I dont even see how this is a discussion.

You guys need to just look toward the future and not argue about what team is better now because its not even a discussion. As someone posted earlier Im sure there will be many good battles in the future and I dont expect it to take long before you guys are back if your coach is good, so just leave it at that and have some perspective.

You guys have a new offensive staff too. Details on how he will develop better under your new coaches please. I think a guy that supposedly was "under" Tom Brady is better than most QB coaches in college football.

So for us it's "losing" our staff and for PSU it's gaining a new staff full of experience and energy. I see. Staff changes are always overblown, especially here where the offense is largely going to stay the same and the defense has the same coordinators. It's not like they forgot what works. Here's a preview of the game plan: run Ball, run Ball, play action pass, bootleg to TE, run Ball, TD The offense is not a mystery and the defense wil be better than last year.
