Penn State AD and Former Coach Face Serious Charges

Long story short, former Defensive Coordinator Jerry Sandusky sexually assaulted eight different boys, the AD and another school official knew about the allegations, but didn't tell authorities. Interesting. Gross, but interesting.

Is it wrong that the first thing I thought of was how this will affect the team and the chances they bomb and Wisconsin goes to the title game?

You can follow me on twitter, http://twitter.com/#!/jay_skebba , but I suggest you don't.

  • The chief of police was involved in the cover up as well.....sad story for those kids. I hop Sandusky, the AD, and everyone else involved rot in hell for such heinous acts. Absolutely disgusting.

  • Nothing has been filed against Joe Paterno, which I find weird. You would think he would have known something if all these other people did. Then again, that guy is so out of it these days...either way, he has to answer some questions.

  • Apparently a GA reported Sandusky to Paterno for (well...you know) and Paterno reported it to the AD.

  • Seriously makes me sick to my stomach. I'm thankful I'm not a fan of Penn State. Recruiting scandals are bad, but this is in a league of its own, in my opinion. And no one will man up and take the blame. These boys lives are forever changed.

  • So...he DID know? Why is he not in big trouble over this?

The selfish side of couldn't be happier with the timing of this story. Has to be a major distraction for the team, lets hope they lose a couple.

Paterno not only DID know, he was the FIRST person to know about it. When the Grad Asst saw Sandusky raping the kid in the showers, he went to Paterno's house the next day to tell him about it. Instead of walking over, picking up the phone and calling the police, he just told administrators, who then swept it under the rug.

Paterno is disgusting. I had so much respect for him and now he's clearly the most despicable creature in all of college football. Recruiting violations are one thing, this is covering up multiple child rapes.

  • This should be the end of Paterno

  • They have to fire everyone, because everyone knew. I read the document. He set up the feeder organization in 1977...by 2002 there were 2 separate incidences we know the University was aware of (probably many more). Nothing happens. That's a cover up.

I read a lot of Ish like this in Law School, and its always the same with these long term deals. Pillar of the community/important person, and others knew something was wrong and, for whatever reason, did not act.

As I learned from other boards...everyone was always very confused why he never took jobs at other schools in the 1980s and 90s as a head coach. Well I guess when you already set up the feeder organization, and an untouchable reputation, why mess everything up.

"We don't care about anything but winning. No one cares about ethical standards thats for losers..." BUCKNUTS 21 self trolling.

  • Wow this whole thing is beyond shocking.

    TroyD92

  • This is a mood point because children will be dealing with this their entire life. Beyond sickening.

    That said...

This will likely have an affect on Demetrious Cox and Tommy Schutt (PSU commit)....

I was just about to bring that up. Also, could Denman have known this was about to break?

I saw this in the Orlando Sentinel, it's worth your five minutes. http://blogs.orlandosentinel.com/en_fuego/2011/11/joe-paterno-must-go-after-penn-state-sex-abuse-scandal.html

  • One five star kid is already on the way out of his commitment, likely SEC bound. Schutt, being from Illinois (if I remember correctly) will probably rethink his verbal.

All the talk about never having a death penalty again, no one, including myself, ever saw something like this coming. All the people that knew and covered it up, total lack of internal control, if there ever were a situation there deserved it, this would merit the death penalty IMO. It's that inhumane and disgusting. Ruined numerous young boy's lives, you can't erase the damage.

  • Seriously, paying players in money, hookers, gifts, etc.. is one thing, but I would be in favor of the death penalty without a doubt.

Absolutely. This isn't some recruiting scandal or some booster giving some kid cash, this is on an ENTIRELY different level. If anything could ever warrant the death penalty, this is it.

I completely agree with this article.

    Thanks for the post, Skebba.

  • It is disgusting and Paterno needs to be gone. It would be nice if the NCAA could impose the death penalty. The question I have is does this fall under the jurisdiction of the NCAA in any way. Anyone know?

This was my one question as well. This is a legal matter to the fullest, hopefully the NCAA can still issue sanctions with this matter, that's assuming they'd have the nuts to do anything worthy.

    UWholzum12

  • I don't think there's anything the NCAA can do because none of this had any impact on what happened on the field and no players were involved or effected. Unless there's some clause about morality or something, I'm not sure if they can anything.

Also, as far as the "death penalty," I thought you had to be considered a repeat violator to get that? As in being on probation for something and doing the same thing within five years?

  • Who knows if Sandusky had threatened him though... Without a doubt he has blame to take but its more than just him at the same time.

As more information is released, my issues are focused towards Coach (Mike) McQueary.

After witnessing Jerry Sandusky having sex with a young boy, wouldn’t you question—just once in twelve years—why the hell this creep was still hanging around the campus and locker room?

Wouldn’t you—just once in twelve years—wonder why the hell Sandusky wasn’t in jail?

Wouldn’t you—just once in twelve years—punch him in the face after walking past him in the hallway?

What happened to Coach McQueary’s moral obligations as a citizen?

Sounds like Coach McQueary was worried about his future…and was NOT worried about the young children being molested inside the PSU facilities.

And don’t give me any excuses...

“McQueary was probably worried about his job.”

“He followed protocol by reporting it to his superiors.”

“McQueary was probably frighten and didn’t think he’d be taken seriously.”

    That is BS!

Even as a 22-year-old, you know how disgusting and inappropriate those actions are.

Evan as a 22-year-old, you should have punched Sandusky in the face when witnessing those actions in the locker room.

Evan as a 22-year-old, you know that going to the authorities is the ONLY option in a situation like this.

How did Coach McQueary look at himself in the mirror everyday?

McQueary was supposedly 28 in 2002. Which makes it worse. We don't know what level of detail he shared with Joe Pa but we do know what he shared with the Attorney General. The fact that he didn't resign from Penn State or at minimum have problems with Sandusky at practice is hard to comprehend.

The fact that he called is dad first to learn what to do is a sign that he was more concerned about his job than the kid. It's my own opinion that he likely didn't give Joe Pa many details of the shower incident. Joe was about 73 at the time. Could be difficult to describe such a thing to an elderly man he respected. He probably feared how Joe would react given his long-time relationship with Sandusky.

But the fact that Sandusky was investigated in 1998 was probably reason for Joe to elevate what he knew. At minimum he should have been more suspicious at worse its a cover-up.
