Is Barry's ego hurting the search

  • We all know that Barry Alvarez is the greatest coach in Badger history and the current AD. He built the program and to this day, it really has not changed. When he stepped down as the HC of the Badgers he simply handed Bret Bielema the keys to the mansion. But, as the coaching search continues and assistant's are running for the hills, it leads one to believe something is wrong. When coaches from schools that you only see on the ESPN bottomline decline the chance to coach a 3 time consecutive B1G TEN Champion and 3 peat of the Rose Bowl, red flags immediately appear. Yes BA likes to hire from within or he wants a "Wisconsin Guy" but maybe it's time for a change. In order for the Badgers to overcome what has turned into a joke in college football, maybe that big name is the only answer.

  • As good of a coach and AD Alvarez is I'm surprised he pays the assistants damn near nothing. That's the reason why the assistants are bailing on the successful program that he (Alvarez) help build.

  • Ok, what are the reasons? The one that makes the most sense is that a new hire is going to occur and that new hire wanted to bring his own staff on board.

  • Wisconsin has now been to three straight Rose Bowls. Why blow up the entire coaching staff when y'all have a good thing going? I understand a new coach may want to bring in some assistants of his own; however, Alvarez needs to keep as many as he can to keep the program rolling. Just my opinion.

  • Name a program that kept the majority of its assistants when a new HC was named unless it was an internal hire. Even when Bielema took over for BA he only kept 2 of the assistants.

There is an exception where it may occur. That is when you have a sudden and unexpected departure due to death or scandal similar to what Arkansas experienced last year and there was no time to find new staff. And an interim coach was named.

Arkansas under Petrino is one. Some changes happened a couple years into his tenure.

I don't see why Alvarez wouldn't hire from within.

  • We don't have a coach from within who is ready to be the HC immediately. How many assistants is BB retaining at ARK?

Not sure yet... but this is different than your situation. Bielema can come in here and clean house. We suck.

I don't think cleaning house is a good thing for the Wisconsin program right now.

I just don't see if the hire isn't Peterson or Chyrst that they will be successful, and by that I mean keeping the big time recruits.
