How good is Zeitler?

  • Can someone give me a quick analysis of him? The Bengals drafted him and I was a little disappointed..need some reasons not to be!

  • my thought on the surface is a steady pro who could develop into a pro bowl player. Moves well for his size, which is something that was part of the job description in our offense. People often see our OL as big, but when you watch the tape you can see how much they are asked to pull and get down field. Seems to have a controlled mean streak, but not your typical mauler as they say. Relies a little more on technique than brut force. Trying not to be a homer here, but i really feel there is not much of a gap between him and DeCastro from Stanford. What he lacks in skill he more than makes up for in intelligence. May be one of the smarter players in the draft and that is something I always like in the interior OL. Picking an OG early is never sexy, but i think for years to come you are going to like what he brings to the table.

Thank you. The media hyped up DeCastro so I'm kind of glad we didn't get him.

Zeitler seems like a good, solid player. Do you think he could improve upon his quickness? He looks slow on tape

Our draftable linemen aren't actually slow, trust me. They just don't have to "burst" as much as others because there is an extreme emphasis on technique. This is especially true due to the delayed nature of many of our pulling run plays. It may sound weird, but trust me when I say that you should in no way be disappointed.

Thanks. I'm liking the responses you guys have given me so far.

Technique is definitely his strongest attribute, imo.

  • Reportedly scored a 40 on the Wonderlic. Said Bengals OL coach Paul Alexander, "He's as tough as (Matt) O'Dwyer, as smart as (Mike) Goff, as tenacious as Nate (Livings)," Alexander said. "I haven't really had anyone quite like him. He's unique." Alexander went on to say he is already penciled in as the starter at RG. I am a Bengals fan as well as a huge UW fan so I couldn't be happier with the pick.
