Future Badger Uthoff named Iowa Mr. Basketball

  • The University of Wisconsin signee was recently honored as the 2011 Iowa Mr. Basketball, the sixth Metro prep to be named the top senior player in the state, the first since Linn-Mar’s Jason Bohannon in 2006 -- Bohannon also played college ball at Wisconsin.

    Uthoff led the state with a 26.2 scoring average (including a high of 44 earlier in the season against Marion), hitting 55 percent of his shots from the floor and 84.6 from the free throw line.

  • Not sure why there isn't more of a buzz about how good Uthoff is and how big of a get he was for this program. He is the best player in the 11 class and I think the best player we've gotten since Leuer in the 07 class. In fact, he reminds me quite a bit of Leuer, although may be a better scorer than Leuer was at a similar stage. Everyone should be extremely excited about what Uthoff can bring to the table.

    Totally agreed, Pete. I definitely can see your comparison to Leuer, and it would be great if Uthoff could transform into a better scorer than Leuer. Almost glad he's been overlooked in a way as he'll come into the program the classic way: underhyped, underappreciated and hungry to work his tail off to win. Lots of upside to this kid.
