@BadgerFootball: 7 #Badgers named 1st-team All-B1G: Ball, Abbrederis, Wagner - consensus. Pedersen, Borland - coaches. Frederick, Taylor - media
That's a lot of talent that wasn't used to its full potential....while I agree something needs to happen at QB this team had too much talent for the offensive results we saw this year.
Ball, Frederick, and Borland were the only ones who deserved that IMO. All are talented, but others are better.
If God dwells inside us, like some people say, I sure hope He likes enchiladas, because that's what He's getting
No Wagner? Really? He's better than Fredrick
OK, I was wrong.
I repspectfully say WTF?
Guys, be serious:
1. Limited Oline and terrible initial Oline coach
2. Limited QB, when QB looks like he's making progress, gets hurt.
You give him one more year, part of the OCs evaluation will be how he develops the QBs.
There have been lots of factors working against this offense that Canada has had to face, but play calling is entirely within his control and that has been a disaster. In fact it could be the single biggest factor in each of our losses this season. There is no excuse for that. I can only assume he was better at NIU so there is hope but it simply has to improve and BB needs to task him with forming a specific plan to make it happen.
Totally agree. Canada seemed handcuffed this year. I do think he needs to be less conservative. He needs to re-examine the plays that worked successfully with Chryst especially on down and distance and look to fit that with his personnel.
I fully expect the O-line to be much better next year. We need to get back to being a TE centric offense. If it's 3rd and 6 plus do we always need to line up in a spread formation? Let's get multiple TE's out in patterns. We don't have the athletes to be successful in the spread formations.
If you're going to try and argue his play calling has been good, this is going to be a pointless conversation to have. Come on. Last stat I saw had us as a top 5 least penalized team in the NCAA. I actually give him credit for that. We have had drops, for sure, but not necessarily more than any other team. Our creativity in the second half of games has been lacking, plain and simple. His play calling has been a large part of that, no use in denying it.
It's otherwise hard to grade Canada on other aspects, as the line improvement has been mostly attributed to Miller and Stave's season got cut short. I do think he helped in Stave's development, and I think QB coaching is a strength for him.
The last topic I'll bring up because people used to bang on Chryst for it. Recruiting. Canada hasn't exactly lit it up in that department. Overall, as a OC, I'll give him a low passing grade this year. I'm not trying to make him the sacrificial lamb, but I just wish he kept the foot on the gas. I think he is better than some give him credit for, but is spread coach trying to run a pro offense. Hopefully he shows some new wrinkles Saturday and we light up Nebraska. That will make this conversation moot.
My point is not to argue the play calling being good or bad. My point is unless we are sitting in the coaches meeting while they evaluate the film we have no clue.
Hence to try and say his play calling is the problem is purely conjecture.
we don't need to see them evaluate film to ask.
-why when we are having success with the toss sweep plays do we switch to only running it to the short side or completely switch to inside runs?
-why do we not run screen passes when defenses are pinning their ears back?
-why are we predictable on first down, especially to idiots like me?
While a lot of struggles may be related to talent, missed assignments, etc. I think most people are frustrated at the oveall philosophy. Why abandon things that seem to be working? Why turn ultra conservative mid stream? Why not pass on first down or at least try to throw in the element of surprise? Who really knows...Could be from lack of confidence in players, inexperience, or being afraid of the big mistake. Either way, you have to trust your guys will make plays at some point. Wasn't much of a Canada backer from day 1 due to his style of offense, but there are some good points made earlier. His strength has always been developing QB. Given the situation at the position, you would think he will get an offseason to develop the guys. Im afraid learning a new offense would almost offset any progress in other departments. I also know Chance noted he was a fan after one of the visits. Regardless of our opinion, axing people could affect recruits. Lets hope one of these young guys can take a big step with the correct direction. Bottom line, WI needs to break away from the game manager concept. Without a difference maker under center, it will be tough to progress and take the program to the next level. We saw that in Wilson, so we can only hope BB took note during interviews and targeting recruits.
in fairness to that, this one of my biggest gripes with Chryst as well. Maybe he is reading Chryst for dummies.
I wish Canada does get better. He is a guy that I could see being here along time and not going off to a new school.
