I have a question for you all. BB has constantly said that the 2013 team will be his best and most talented. Would you as head coach stay with Canada and hope he turns it around next year, or would you take a risk and fire him? I'm having a hard time with my answer even...
not to immediately hijack the topic, but regardless of how talented the 2013 team is it won't be special with what i have seen at QB. Still think Canada has issues though.
If you do switch OC I would have to guess if Hammock isn't considered, he might leave. If Hammock is staying no matter what, then it all depends on what you can get. I just wouldn't let him go until UW knows what they are getting.
Does Matt Canada ever speak to the media? I know earlier in the year Evan had a few quotes from him, but nothing recently. You have to think that hammock would get an interview if Canada were fired. Being running coordinator, is some of the blame on him for the way we run? I'm not sure he has much say in what plays are ran.
And don't worry about hijacking the topic. I'm just looking to get a few more topics on the days where news is few and far between. I really love reading everyone's opinions. I'm starting to post more and it's becoming a great pleasure to be part of this site.
Matt Canada is a terd. He spends so much time with his head up his ass, he's constantly thinking like shit. I say next guy in.
Stick with Canada and see what can happen with a full complement of QBs and some better WR talent.
I am mixed on this. You never want to let a coach go if he is decent, but the worst thing is what happens if he is the problem. The one thing I keep going back to is what the Badgers have done in overtime. Its been 3 games that UW have been bad. Thats the one that causes me to think Canada isn't the answer.
I'd have no problem if we fire Canada the morning after the bowl game
Unless you are hiring Hammock and keeping the same play book, you are going to severely retard the progression of Stave and Houston. That would be the 2nd(houston) and 3rd(Stave) OC in the last 3 years. You arent going to win games that way either. Give him another year with a full offseason with the 2 QBs of the future.
People wanted Chryst gone also.
Fourteen starters from last year gone plus the K and P. And 6 new coaches.
O'brien was not the answer and Stave was RS FR who got hurt and Phillips was coming off 3 ACL surgeries and had never started a game. We had one proven WR who missed a game and parts of a couple others, and an OL that was inconsistent and you want to blame the OC.
We played 4 top twenty teams, beat one, lost to one in OT. Lost two 2 others by 3 points. And our other two losses were in OT.
This has been a frustrating year. Even Alvarez had a few bad years. Alvarez NEVER had 6 consecutive winning seasons like BB has. Only one other coach in the history of UW football had more and that was from 1896 - 1902.
Which OC would you offer and what are the chances that OC would accept and how much will it cost. If you don't have a deal done ahead of time then you are rolling the dice.
And you want to fire the OC because he didn't live up to your expectations.
Give me a break.
All of the above aside, which valid points were made, the playcalling was the worst I have ever witnessed over the course of a season. We'd be better off with an "Ask Madden" option in the second half of games. I'd like to see Hammock get a promotion
So are you saying that the failure of players to execute equals bad play calling. Penalties are the fault of the OC, Dropped passes and missed blocks are the fault of the OC.
Do you have access to the game film and know who was responsible for what and failed to execute?
There are times plays are called with the intent to setup a play later on. It may not work but its purpose may have been successful.
It would be like me criticizing your financial portfolio and not knowing what your financial goals are.
1000% this. I remember when everyone said the same thing about Chryst--shitty play calls in big games.
1 season with new players, new coaching relationships, new environment, a shaky OL to start the year, moving from a starting QB with head issues to a backup who gets hurt to the 3rd stringer without a strong arm....
Let's be fair to the guy.
PS: Don't forget: his best and really ONLY WR option was out a good bit as well.

The play calling has definitely been an issue, but I think he needs to get one more season for the sake of continuity with the young QBs. At the same time, do you think if Canada was the first year unproven offensive coordinator having this much trouble at a school like Florida, Alabama, Oklahoma, or USC that he'd be given another season based on what has happened? I guess when it comes down to it I don't really know how I feel about it. I'm torn!
Of course he gets another season. I think he'll take a big leap. But if he doesn't then all bets are off.
The talent on offense last year spoiled us all.
Ah...Russell Wilson spoiled us all

I agree Canada should at least get one more year to improve. I'd really like to know who Bielema passed up during the interview process that made him choose Canada? If I recall a number of candidates applied for the open OC position. This offense has lost it's identity. Our defense is stout but since our offense can't keep them off the field, it leaves them tired in the 4th quarter even worse in OT. Chryst had a creative mindset for play calling thus would eliminate vulnerabilitiy. Canada needs to expand our offensive strategies and not go to the well as often.
Is this a serious question?
Players not executing has been a problem as well, but you can't run every first down then run again on 3rd and 9 and blame it on not executing. I think this year should be made into an educational video titled " How to make a talented team flirt with .500." When Stave was playing I thought the play calls were alright. Now, I can hardly watch the game.
That being said, I would keep him for program stability and recruiting reasons and just have a long talk about how important a balanced and unpredictable offense is.
There are a couple others starting in the NFL besides Wilson.
There may possibly be only one first team all B1G offensive player for UW, Monte Ball. The offensive talent this year is not what it has been.
Abby would be 1st team if he had a quarterback who could get him the ball or an offensive coordinator who could adapt after his first two scripted series. Pederson, despite his limitations, would've had a chance at 1st team also.
