Never say never about Paul Chryst until AD Alvarez calls a press conference and names another HC.
Born in Madison, grew up in Platteville, UW grad.
When asked why he was leaving Texas A&M for Alabama, the late Bear Bryant replied, "When mama calls you just have to come runnin' " When the smoke clears I think Paul Chryst is your new coach.
Agree. The money is better but not that much better, BA and UW could have arranged a raise to maybe not match it but at least be in the ball park to keep BB. Arkie has a tough road getting out of the SEC to win a national championship with Bama, LSU, Florida, etc. in the conference.
Add in the quality of the kids coming, the new facilities, and other things, there could be more to the story than we will ever hear.
As to comments by others about UW hiring younger up and comers then losing them, this is basically the identity of the whole university. The school doesn't have the resources to match the well-to-do programs even in athletics. Just look at the complaining of the ticket buyers when ever a price increase of a $1-$2 a game is implemented despite UW football tix being relatively low priced in relation to the B1G.
Let me have one more take... I'm speculating and putting together pieces of the puzzle.
Reports go as followed:
1.) Bret Bielema met with Arkansas AD Jeff Long in NYC.
2.) UW personnel were unaware of this meeting/interview.
3.) Barry Alvarez also in NYC this week.
Did Bielema get caught with his hand in the cookie jar? Did BA catch his coach inquiring about other jobs behind his back?
Just a thought...
I think you are pretty close on this one. After reading more articles, it is sounding more and more likely that this happened overnight. And in fact the athletic dept had no idea BB was thinking about leaving. I just wonder if there was something that lit the fire to have BB start sniffing around other jobs.
A few more possibilities:
1) BA is leaving for Nebraska, or has indicated that he plans to retire soon....he's 65 years old. BB takes the first lateral move he can because he knows that his stock will likely never be higher
2) BA has the itch and wanted to get back into coaching for a few more years
3) BB and BA have drifted apart due to their large egos and BB wanting to carve out his own path. BA told BB to take a hike when he found out that he was wavering
4) We seriously overrate the prestige of our program and BB legit sees Arkansas as a better option...hard to believe considering their fans, facilities, campus, academics and current program prestige are all far below UW, but they are in the SEC so there's that...
"We don't care about anything but winning. No one cares about ethical standards thats for losers..."
Arkansas has far better facilities than Wisconsin. Wisconsin's facilities are at the bottom of the B1G next to Northwestern.
Fact. Even with the project that will be completed next year UW would rank middle of the pack at best in terms of facilities. In regards to the fans, it doesn't really matter who has more or who is better. What matters is which fan base has influential and wealthy donors that support the program and don't care how much it costs to do so. Arkansas has that edge over UW.
For what? Another year?

Speaking of fans, do you think the students will now arrive on time to games? Its a stupid reason to leave, but BB seemed to get iritated over the student section.
Still middle of the road? I was thinking definitely top half once the renovations are completed.
Unfortunately yes. Ohio State, Michigan, Penn State, and Nebraska would be ahead of us for sure. Michigan State has a nice football facility and Iowa is in the process of building a brand new practice facility as well, and Northwestern has plans for a facility that is going to cost $220 million. That is why I say middle of the pack. The arms race is just nuts!
