This. Exactly where most people realistically thought we'd be.
I think there are some tough games left on the schedule, but all are very winnable.
For me its to early to judge GA, but it seems like some of the 4 biggest games as head coach, Auburn and UW while at USU and so far ASU and OSU here, he is close but have loses in all the games. All the games they have been under dogs, but its something I was hoping that would change. Until bowl game, I don't see UW being a underdog, so being at UW chances are few to get that special win people remember. Beating NW will be nice, but how many people think that UW shouldn't win that game? Like I said to early to judge, but until he does, I have to wonder about that.
I'll try to interject some positives here quickly.
On D: Borland, Caputo, O'Neill, Herring, Muldoon, and Shelton are playing tremendous football this season. If I'm missing anyone on this list I apologize.
What else can you say about Borland? Best LB to ever put on the Cardinal and White IMHO. Caputo, O'Neill, Herring, and Muldoon have been pleasant surprises. Shelton has more than held his own so far. Yes he has had some "freshman" moments, but that is to be expected.
On O: Abbrederis, MG3, and White obviously stand out to me. Honorable mentions include Arneson, Clement, and Marz.
I know Arneson had a couple false start penalties in the second half against OSU, but I don't think he was right in the head after taking a big hit on the TD catch. I think Marz has done a tremendous job considering most of us questioned whether or not he could handle LT duties. Clement has shined when given opportunities in garbage time.
Watt when healthy has played well
I agree. I wanted to mention that I'm a little disappointed with the fact that he has not been involved much lately. I don't know if that's a product of play calling, defensive alignment, or Stave, but I like Watt's ability in the flats.
It's hard to judge Gary or his staff cuz I do think this is not the offense he wants to run. He's running it because its the best for the current players. That said, while Gary does like to run the ball, this passing attack is not what Gary wants to run, and it's clear based on all the WRs they are recruiting.
You run what fits, and right now power run/play action is our best bet at winning.
Not sure why they are not going to have an experienced QB on the roster.....maybe you think Braxton Miller is better than he is...he is a true Junior. Devin Smith is also a Junior....I don't think he is going pro..so I am really confused by your post.
I'm obviously not qualified to make a decision like this, but if up to me I think I would have subbed Biegel in for Armstrong a little more during the OSU game. Ethan seemed slow and missed a few tackles where I believe Biegel's speed/lateral quickness probably would have made those plays.
Look I will keep it simple. UW just took the 4th ranked team at their place on a Saturday night game to the end of the game. Not a lot of teams will be able to do that. Clean up mistakes, simple mistakes and it could have ended different. I give OSU credit for winning the game, but UW showed they can play with the best of the Big 10. Mistakes made more of a difference then talent.
I think miller goes pro if for nothing more to avoid getting injured and getting nothing in return. Thought smith was a senior regardless if miller goes pro OSU is in a world of trouble from a QB standpoint.
that is pretty much where i am at for the high level. drilling down some of the things that cost us still irk me. Probably one thing that really bugs me is that we drop out of the polls for this while Nebraska is ranked.
If think if you look purely at explosiveness there is an obvious difference Abby is very good but when we couldn't get it to him our drives pretty much stalled. Stave played well but there's a reason Abby saw the ball so much he's our only true receiving threat.
I don't know if UW getting blown out would've made me feel better? You think of all that went bad from mistakes, penalties, starting position, UW not running as well as I thought they could and Gordon missing the whole 4th quarter and the ball bounces not for UW, all that went wrong, OSU would've spanked most teams. In the end , with all that happened, UW had a chance to win the game at the end. If you tell me all that would happen, I would say it would be one of those 50 -20 games. One minute I will be thinking UW let one slip away, but the next I will be how did they keep it so close.
I don't want to sound like I am ripping on Duckworth and Erickson because to get to this level , you have to have some, but i would guess talent level wise, they are more at the bottom then top. What they are is good blockers and understand where to be at most of the time. Part of me wants GA to play Wheelwright, Jordan and others to see what they could bring, but GA is seeing something from that gives snaps to some but not others, and thats good enough for me.
I'm not sleeping on Erickson. He's obviously made some strides and almost made that ridiculous catch in which the ground dislodged the ball. He's got a long way to go but he's also come a long way in a very short period of time.
idk i think it is a lot easier to have a QB make the recievers than the receivers make the QB. ask Tom Brady
Watching lots of college games every week there seem to be good WRs at much worse football schools. Decent Wrs are a dime a dozen and we can't find three?? Tom Brady types MUCH harder to find.
