That was his best bowl win...the Capitol One Bowl against Arkansas his first year on the job.. After that he had some poor seasons... I believe that was McFadden/Jones duo team at the time? Anyways, agree w/ the assessments here. Solid recruiter, solid staff, good game planning, kids like him, but average at best game management. If he's getting it done w/ the staff, you'll be competitive and probably do well. Not nearly the coach that Petrino was, but way better than JLS.
"When I get said, I stop being said and be awesome again. True Story." - Barney Stinson
I guess the main thing is I think Bret was stupid to go to Arkansas. Not trying to hate, but I think he has no idea what he is getting into. If he thought dealing with Meyer was tough, wait till he sees Nick Saban, Les Miles, & Johnny Football every year.
Overall, in the beginning of this hoopla, people were shocked and maybe some mad. It was more so though of how he left. Not even 48 hours after winning the Big 10 title he left. Barry handpicked him for the job here, and in an instant he pretty much stabbed him in the back and ditched him.
As for his actual coaching, A LOT of people are glad he left. Week after week people wanted him canned. I actually think he got more criticism than he deserved, it got annoying to me listening to people b*tch about Bret every week.
Good luck, but to be frank I really doubt Andersen will be worse than Bielema. Its not a bad hire for you guys, but don't mistaken this guy for the next Nick Saban or someone like that.
Don't be offended though. People are kinda ticked the way he sorta just randomly one day got up and left. Of course half of them wanted the guy gone a month ago anyway.
Sounds pretty opposite of Petrino. He was a bad recruiter, had a sub-par staff, amazing game planning and game management, kids hate him.

Yup... That was the game Jack Ikegwuonu chased down McFadden from behind, saved a TD and the game... Still today one of the most incredible things I've seen on a football field. Haven't had a CB close to his level since.

Another VIP post that I can't read. Thanks.
Petrino is a very good, maybe even great HC. The problem is he has no personal/family values. In other words, he is kinda of a piece of sh*t.
As for Bielema, idk. I know a lot of opposing Big 10 fans hated him. They thought he ran it up and acted cocky. He is somewhat of a hot shot young gun. That occasionally rubs people the wrong way. Bret never did anything really bad but early in his career he had a reputation as quite the party boy in Madison. The story is after a 7-6 season in 2008, Barry had to have a talk to basically tell him to cut the crap and behave like a figure like him should. Credit to him, Bret seemed to clean up his act, he got rid of the bad apples on the team and is now married. I think his "bro" days are probably in the past.
Just some background on him. He isn't what Petrino is, but I also wouldn't call him an angel either.
I've heard rumors that after Bret got married he has not changed his bachelor ways.
I bet if she finds out she divorces him and takes half his assets.
We want pre-nup, We want pre-nup. I'm sure Bret knew what was he was going to be doing after he got married and took the appropriate steps. I would hope. Does anybody else think his wife played a big role in his decision? He's completely content in his job and then the first Wisconsin winter rolls around for the SEC born bride and all of a sudden he can't get to the SEC fast enough.
Isn't she from southern Florida? That's not really an SEC area: not enough jorts, mullets, and Natty Light.

Just hope Bret doesn't take any criticism because she'll get upset and want them to move.
