First things first. This site has been awesome. Breaking technology and the best place to go for Wisconsin Badger material. With that said I have been a member of 2 sites, despite their lower quality coverage/support from national staff, mainly due to loyalty.
It was well documented on the other site that the national pundits we're not in favor of Wisconsin. Barry Every was even fired for admitting that the national staff caters to certain subscription fan bases, and SIDS of certain schools. Additionally it was documented by posters, mainly by Larry, that Wisconsin is usually blatantly left out of conversatins of recruits or slanted to give the recruit negative perceptions of Wisconsin. One specific example of this is when a recruit listed his top 5 schools and they asked about each school in detail, except for Wisconsin. My philosophy has always been that if the writers want to give a negative perception of Wisconsin, I would do my best to show Wisconsin is a premiere school.
Last Saturday I posted a thread showing video of Corey Clement. I was subsequently banned for 3 days on that individual board, a relatively small ban. I contacted Rivals.com associates and asked why I was banned. The reasoning was that I was posting about Wisconsin too much. I asked about cancellation and they informed me that I am only allowed to cancel between 8am-5pm Central time via a phone call. For me this is impossible. I only post early morning, late nights, or on weekends. My hours are dictated by client demand in my profession and I simply cannot call during those times, and I cannot take off a day of work to cancel my account this time of year. Keep in mind I can sign up for the site 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Nonetheless I tried to make it work. I tried calling as I was preparing for work but was on hold until it was time to start work and I was forced to hang up.
I once again contacted Rivals.com associates and informed them that I was unable to cancel during the hours that were dictated by their early response and my attempts to do so. Their action was surprising. They pretty much told me tough luck. Additionally they locked my access to premium content throughout the site. I tried accessing my personal information on the site so I could remove my credit card and to my surprise they locked that too. They will not allow me to remove my credit card from the site because I wanted to cancel my account.
They stopped responding to emails requesting that they let me access my credit card information, so I contacted Jon McNamara and Veldhius who both responded in an extremely timely manner, but Jon McNamara said I would need to find a way to call the toll free number M-F 8am-5pm. He said he is unable to allow me to access my personal information including credit card info or access to premium content as he was not the person who did that. Furthermore, he did not have contact information that I could reach someone on the weekend to help fix my account including letting me authorize/unauthorize rivals.com from storing my credit card information.
The ban does not bother me too much. They are a private company and are allowed to cater to certain fan bases. But the fact that have gone to great lengths to force me to pay for this service is what bothers me. If you sign up over there, I wish you the best of luck if you ever wish to cancel, because they will do everything in their power to get their money. I will be in contact with the Better Business Bureau. Hopefully they allow me to cancel then!

It sucks that you can't cancel your membership, but you were seemingly trolling the Badgers on the Rivals MB. Intentionally trying to make our fanbase look bad.
The post I was banned for was basically "wow this video of corey clement is sick, check it out". Does that give them the right to lock my personal information including credit card info and force me to pay for a service that I do not even have access to? Just because I post pro-Wisconsin videos, does that give someone the right to keep my credit card and charge it whenever they want, especially when theyre told not to? Do I lose consumer rights for this?
Rivals sucks and I'm tired of the bias too. I like the J's. I did the one year subscription for like $99 so it's not too bad and there's enough news on there to keep me a member. Not sure if I'll re-up in August. I can't stand the national guys for Rivals. Wish I would have found 247 back then, I probably wouldn't be members of both.

It was better with Kyle and Tom, but this site has always been the best badger coverage I have seen over the years. Honestly, I'd go with Worgell than ever giving Rivals a chance ever again.

Here is the copy/paste version of what I said "Dude was a 4 star and has ALL the intangibles! He is going to be a future #1 pick! What a sick video!". It was confirmed to me that this post was the reason for my ban. I have saved all documentation in pdf form, in the event I am charged for this and have to dispute the charges with my credit card company. Does that give them a right to force me to pay for something?
Just call, cancel and get on with it. No sense in making yourself miserable over their screwed up policy.

That's been known about Rivals for years. Their idea of customer service is to avoid at all costs providing a service to their customers.

Mostly yea and it was over the top at times which is why they had a right for the ban despite my post not being that bad. They don't have the right to go out of their way to prevent me from canceling though
I've said this already but just to reiterate:
(a) When the only exposure other fan bases have is to behavior like this, recency and confirmation biases lead other fans to automatically presume the rest of us are the same.
(b) The 1 out of 20 times it's funny is far outweighed by being an obnoxious dbag the rest of the time. The fact that you think it's OK for mods to have to spend time to ban you speaks volumes.
(c) It leads to the most extreme and annoying posters from other boards to come on to our boards and downgrade our experience. It's the equivalent of you running into your neighbor's yard, stomping on every pile of dogshit before he can pick them up just because you know it annoys him, tracking it into the carpet in your apartment, and then complaining to your friends at work that your roommates are pissed off at you.
Go be a dick if it's what you're into, but don't come back whining about it to us.
So you agree that it's okay for a Company to prevent you from removing credit card information because you want to cancel because you post a lot about your team? And fwiw, I think its okay for the ban because they are a private company and can ban whoever they please. There are about 100 posters that deserve bans more than I did there.
They're not say they're holding your CC info hostage, they've said repeatedly call during normal business hours to cancel....to say you can't find 4 minutes to call and cancel makes it seem like it's not that big of deal to you......None of us on here believe you can't find that time to call.....maybe you need to look yourself in the mirror and decide it's time to grow up.....
I did call. I called as I prepared for work, and was on hold for 30 minutes. With daylight savings time(my state doesn't observe it) I can attempt again today with more time, but some of us are actually busy during the week. I rarely have any time during the typical work day and I work long hours. Sometimes 15-16 hour days. My time is valuable. The more work I can accomplish in the day, the more time I can post and sleep at night. And yes they were holding it hostage the moment they decided to not let me remove it.
Just called and cancelled. Took over a half hour... Thats a bunch of lost time. The lady was nice though. Apparently my annual subscription was set to renew in a few days. No wonder why they wouldnt let me access my card information or change from annually to monthly. They were trying to screw me as hard as they could. I hope they go broke, what a horrible company.

huh? Are you serious? Look at my post history, I never post during the day and never access any recreation site during work. I only am now because its daylights savings time gives me an extra hour and allowed me to cancel today as previously stated.
yep. It's starting to slow down a bit, but its been a rough couple months. Definitely a couple 2 am'ers in there. The client I was at last week starts at 7. Had to get there earlier than normal to get extra facetime. It's nice though, you see a lot of companies and how they operate. It's a fun job overall, especially when you work with great clients/teams that are great to be around.
that's crazy. it took me maybe 15 mintues to cancel and that is only becuase she kept trying to offer me 3 months free. Truthfully scout was the harder one to cancel several years back. They even didn't put it through and i got charged again. played dumb.
