@jcshurburtt: Very nice 2014 get for the #Hawkeyes in four-star Ross Pierschbacher http://t.co/a8OH4uPL
Bummer wanted this kid
Beating a in state school is hard to do. I just hope that UW can keep their own. It will be a year that what UW past lineman did wont be such a big deal until recruits see what happens with the new staff.
Definitely not unexpected.I agree I hoped we could steal one.If KF has another mediocre year maybe we can change his mind.
say what you want about the home team, but I really felt we had a very decent shot with him. who knows what affect the turnover had on him, but either way i definitely didn't feel we was going to verbal this soon. I think Kirk was feeling the heat from the seat and pushed to make a statement.
Didn't he go down during the football season and get an offer from Alabama? I'm still a little shocked he verballed so soon to Iowa, another bad season and how can Iowa justify keeping that coaching staff. Wisconsin needs to keep on him!
I have to believe that the staff turnover had some effect on him. To what degree, we will never know.
I dunno. With him committing that early I doubt our staff turnover had much of an effect. He was likely a Hawkeye all the way and him committing early to them just lends credence to that thought.
i don't buy it. He was giving us serious looks. Until Evan or Todd tell me differently that is what i will believe.
Church of the Flying Pierschbacher Monster.
May you be touched by His Noodly Appendage.
Wasn't he the 1 that stuck up for UW when others were ripping on it at the Oregon event? At the very least, you can say the new staff had no effect on him, which you would hope wouldn't happen. You would hope that he would at least listen before a decision. He didn't give them that even.
He never got an offer from Alabama, he did visit but they never offered. Pierschbacher was a lifelong Hawkeye fan and while he was considering Wisconsin, it seems to be somewhat unanimous that you were third behind Iowa and Notre Dame. Everyone's a little shocked he decided so early, especially considering just a few days before Todd wrote an article and mentioned that he was going to Notre Dame's Junior Day this weekend instead of Iowa's because they had it planned and invited him before Iowa had.
To answer how we can "justify" keeping Ferentz, money. Unless he takes an early retirement or leaves for the NFL (not holding my breath), we're pretty much stuck with him for 2-4 more years at which point the buyout may be low enough for our donors to put up the money to force him out.
Sine Missione -- Never be a spectator for unfairness or stupidity, argue for arguments sake; the grave will give plenty of time for silence.
as you mention it was more the surprise it happened so fast. thought we would get more time to battle. a little bit of disarray here to put our best foot forward. before all that it seemed like he was waivering on the direction of the Iowa program. Great get for you guys, i think he will be special. Like i said earlier it seemed like Kirk was feeling the heat and started putting the press on him.
There was certainly pressure on Ferentz to keep him in state and to start strong in the 2014 class, but I'm not sure that there would've been any less pressure had we finished with a better record. The coaches made it a point immediately upon offering him to put the press on him, so I think it had more to do with Ferentz being able to close the deal.
