Here's the deal. O'Brien went in specifically to run the 2-minute offense per Bret Bielema. Bielema felt O'Brien was more equipped to handle it.
Secondly, O'Brien was supposed to keep the ball on a naked bootleg. Probably would have worked to perfection.

If he is better on the 2 minute why is he not better for the whole game. It doesn't make sense to me.
Figures. Stick with Stave please.
I’m going to step onto the chopping block here and say that not starting O’Brien is the mistake that cost Wisconsin the game. I know many people will not agree with me, but Stave cost Wisconsin this game and O’Brien is the better passer in my opinion. Stave will be a good QB someday, but should not be starting right now. Just my opinion
I think the fact that our running game couldn't get a yard on any down in the second half cost them the game. Also, not using Melvin Gordon at all made no sense. Groy did his best to ensure that any play call would fail regardless of who's out there, so none of this really matters. He's a human turnstile.
Obrien made the mistake that cost wisconsin the game. Bielema throwing him under the bus is bad though.
Stave made two nice accurate throws all game (I'm generalizing,I can only recall two but that may not be factually correct). I like Stave alot but he is not accurate enough yet. O'brien screwed up, but he was our only chance to win. I don't think anyone can honestly say that if Stave was in Wisconsin would have won.
I feel like you're in your own little world. Only chance of winning?
O'Brien is more accurate and there is no doubt in my mind. Unbias people I was with (they don't watch college football) were convinced after 4 plays that O'brien was much better. For the record, I'm not saying that really proves anything. I think O'briens miscues can be fixed by the end of the season while Stave's accuracy will take time. I would like for Stave to excel, but I am uneasy they whole time he is playing, much like watching Wilson in the NFL. Do you think Stave looked accurate (disregard your opinions of O'Brien)?
Also, I said only chance of winning because they didn't score (except off the turnover) the entire second half. They had many three and outs. The offense was declining fast. Stave comes in instead of O'Brien and Wisconsin loses in a less dramatic fashion.
My thoughts exactly...
That is not uncommon to find a QB who is better in a hurry up situation or in a regular offense. Generally it comes down to the type of routes and rhythm that the offense is running, ie quick timing routes. Similar to Rickie weeks being able to make the tough plays but blow the easy ones. When the play involves all reaction, some players are better that way. Sometimes the mind gets in the way.
In Europe so watched this at 5am and couldn't sleep cuz wondering why they didn't naked boot.
I will say this about DOB, he threw the ball well. Yes his mistake was big, but up to that point, I thought he was going to pull it out. I look at 2 things about Stave and DOB, Stave should've had 4 interceptions instead of 1, and I would like to see what DOB can do with Abby out there.
Because football is just like baseball. Bring in the relief QB to play the final 2 minutes.
It's so smart and common, no one else does it.
For the people that want Stave, if he would have 3 or 4 picks, would it change any thinking? I am not saying right or wrong, but does it change?
Of course. And he's lucky to not have 3 or 4 picks with some of those throws honestly. But he's learning and he'll get better. All things considered, a pretty decent game by Stave yesterday. His O Line did him no favors.
