Evan, odd to me that a kid from Brookfield took an offer to walk-on at Minnesota rather than the equivalent offer to Wisconsin. Any thoughts?

Is this really true? It just makes no sense.
Yeah this is really weird. Well lets see here... we've missed on a bunch of recruits and gotten a couple under the radar guys. They did a nice job keeping the class together but its Wisconsin and most of the kids stayed for the University. I don't know if I'm sold yet. They have made a lot of questionable moves and this situation is one of them. They preach about lack of WR play making and depth and keeping the instate kids home and then they let Smith go to Minnesota as a walk on. I'm scratching my head on this one...

You're not sold? How about giving them more than a few weeks? Jeeez...
Aaaaahhhhhh!!!!! GA decided to pass on a kid virtually no one else wanted either!!!!! He doesn't know what he's doing!!!!!
Oh, they got another walk-on at WR already? And another at safety? I guess they like those guys better. What's the issue? I don't care about this one in the least.
The walkon progam has proven to so successful over the years that I hope it would continue. The thing that takes people back is UW and Minn had the same offer and the Wisconsin kid took Minny offer. Who knows how good Smith will turn out, but it wont happen at UW.
Couldnt have said it better +1
yes, BS was sooooo good, he was offered to walk on at Goooopher ville......come one.....the kid has great measureables, but could not get an offer from us or UM.........I believe we r saving that walk-on spot for the Alex kid from Miami area.....
I wish they would have kept him, but I'm not going to lose sleep about losing a preferred walk on. Could he have ended up at a great player at UW? Sure he could have, but he still is a preferred walk on. The odds were stacked against him being a difference maker at UW.
Smith could be a very very good player down the road and we might regret letting him get away. I've said this before but it was a little odd to me that Smith didn't have more offers, especially given the number of coaches that have come through that school for James. Exposure certainly wouldn't seem to be the issue. This of course is outside of the fact that it's incredibly easy nowadays to get your film distributed, online and in the hands of the right people. Either way, I always like to see Wisconsin kids do well so I wish him luck except when he's up against UW!!
They TOOK a walk-on at WR. Matt Johnson from Cedarburg. Why is nobody talking about him as the next great success story and everyone is focusing on a guy the new staff wasn't even competing for? IMO the main reason people here are so high on Smith is because Evan was. If they wanted Smith they would have gotten him. You can't take everybody - there are roster limits. So let the staff do their job. To me, Smith is a lot like what we already have at WR-guys who LOOK the part but have a lack of polish at the position. Johnson is much more polished and has great hands. Don't sweat Smith.
We have had the opportunity over the years to sign many many PWO's . Sometimes some offer more than others.
We have and we will continue to sign many young men. Some will excell, some will just be practice guys.
