The new HC could still try to retain or re-hire guys who have left. Mainly, they could bring back Partridge as the DC/AsstHC.
I agree if BA were entertaining thoughts of coaching himself next year, he would have told the guys on staff, so they at least had something to lean on.
If Rhodes were the #2 option, then BA is aiming far too low and not spending enough money.
It's quite possible BA already has his guy lined up, told the staff that, and they are looking for somewhere to land because they know they're not going to have a spot on this team.
One thing is clear, these are all "maybes". Maybe this, maybe that. The reality is nothing is definite. Heck I've seen very little evidence for anything.
Personally, I think we should wait and let it play out before we freak out. Depending on who is hired, we may be overjoyed with the new hire and new staff. I like our staff, but lets not compare them to say Nick Saban's staff at Bama or that caliber of staff. Canada is good, but lets be honest, most of you people wanted him fired before the B1G Title Game. Patridge is valuable for his recruiting, and I think he is a solid coach, I don't think he is irreplaceable however. The Defense has been solid this year, but last year it was a weekly complaint about the D, especially the lack of blitzing and the lack of press coverage.
The 2 best coaches, as far as actual coaching abilities are concerned, are Hammock & Miller in my opinion.
Basically, what I am saying is please wait & see what happens and who is hired. I know we're all getting antsy but I think Barry has deserved enough benefit of the doubt to at least wait and see who he hires before we flip out. Depending on the guy, there is probably a good chance most of these coaches would be gone anyway.
So the reports of Ash wanting to apply for the job makes me think that no new hire is currently in place?
Badger, Partridge has connections in Fla, and those people get paid and hard to find. UW had him and lost him.
Too date none of the coaches that left were fired. They are leaving on their own.
"We don't care about anything but winning. No one cares about ethical standards thats for losers..."
BUCKNUTS 21 self trolling.
He has to have his guy, otherwise the alternative is this is a massive F up. And BTW it's a massive F up even if many of the media reports are not true because of perception. Things like pleas to coaches to stay should not be leaking, and if they are you need to get out and control the message better.
So he must have his man, or its a total F up.
The Bigeddysprings is not a horse.
Everyone thinks Tennessee got a low pick on their list because it took a "long" time and reports kept coming out that candidates were rejecting them and things were getting desperate. I don't know if those reports were true, but I certainly accept them at face value as do most non-Tennessee fans.
Now they could have made a big hire and said see you should have trusted us we were always gunning for this guy. Just like BA can do on the 22nd the 26th, the 5th, or the 13th. But if the hire is not a big name, then for the next year (ie until the new coach proves real ability over an entire season) national perception will be that we struck out and got just some guy. This will hurt recruiting, don't pretend it wont.
