Bailey visits UW, has a new top 3

Four-star Quarterback Aaron Bailey visited Wisconsin for the first time today. Following the visit, have the Badgers been elevated among Bailey's leaders?

  • Odd that OSU is the team that dropped...from what I have heard I thought they were his leader before his visit to UW. I wonder what has changed?

  • Did he actually say that Illinois and Northwester rounded out his top 3 or did you just write that? It sounded like he needs to think about it and that hardly seems like OSU is out of it

    Bailey said that himself.

I'm guessing what changed is this. Bailey told me he wants to go some place he's wanted. Ohio State offered him, but the coaches need to see him throw in person before he could commit. That said, he'd have to wait until this summer to do so. Leaving the chance that A. OSU picks up another QB or B. The staff decides they don't want him.

Reading the Ohio State article, he doesn't sound overly thrilled about OSU. Bailey went in depth with this article and had a good experience rather than "a lot of fun". I think Wisconsin might just be a better fit than OSU

  • I know the article says otherwise and Evan did a nice job of tracking down Bailey, but I think Ohio State is still the team to beat if Bailey throws well at the Buckeyes summer camp. That's based off several conversations with Bailey and his family. We'll see how things develop.

In your opinion, what does this do for UW's chances? It sounds like UW is right there with anybody, and quite frankly, compared to NU and UI, it's not a competition, IMO.

    That makes sense.

Either way, I'm hoping he doesn't commit before he throws for OSU, and gets that whole situation sorted out. I will never understand why people want kids to commit if it is obvious that they will decommit, or at least highly consider, a possible future offer. Rob Wheelright is a good example...I'm pretty sure even if he was technically committed to UW, that an offer from OSU, and possible MSU, would sway him.

Sounds like it might be a little different now, think Ohio State might not have room for him. Have you talked to Aaron since his visit?

  • a) I seem to remember someone predicting that Aaron Bailey would put UW in his top 3 after the visit. Very well done there, Evan.
    b) One thing I'd be interested in knowing, Evan, is Bailey's opinion on the Danny O'Brien situation. Critics are so eager to claim UW will be hurt in QB recruiting by Wilson and O'Brien back to back, but I'm convinced that they're smart enough to understand that the injuries are a unique situation. Would love to hear directly from a recruit on that.

That is not true. Ohio State still has room for Bailey.

  • If it's truly between UW, NW and ILL I love UW's chances. Especially if NW is favoring Alviti. What QB would want to go to ILL over UW?

I think they're in the mix for sure. Sounds like the Badgers really helped themselves today.

Pat Fitzgerald is an amazing recruiter. If he was at a different school, he'd land several blue-chippers (and win a National Championship). Northwestern is the program that Bailey is most familiar with and visited the most. In the end, they'll have a tough time landing him, but they're working hard to get him that's for sure.

  • Hope he doesn't act like another Devin Butler.

  • Urban may be pushing his luck giving Bailey and Zaire conditional offers.
All is good if they get someone better that vary well may not happen.

  • If he feels like he needs to be “wanted” Whiskey is a good choice? It might be until Big Bad Brett brings in another transfer to take his place 2 years down the road… But your points are both valid.
