  • Sorry guys but he's no Nick Saban. He is a loyal Canes coach and will not be leaving this year. Good luck in your search.

And here I was hoping there was a chance, but CFLACane has said it won't be, so that's that.

  • CFLACane, thank you for your opinion. I tend to agree that UW will not get Golden, although I just don't see UW having a ton of interest in him. I know there are a few indirect connections with the former AD and Shalala, but outside that, I don't know if that is really who UW will target first, but that is JMO.

  • The AD hired Golden but was only around for a few months after...i do not believe they had any prior connection before the hire. I do know the AD was impressed with the 1000 page binder Golden brought into the interview laying out his plan to bring Miami back into the national fold. I was very suprised by your coaches exit....philosophy wise his style translates to the SEC but he had a clearer path to sucess in Big 10 for sure. Anyways...i'll always root for you guys over OSU and the northern less swag version of UM.

  • No one is Nick Saban right now in CFB. Cmon man... I think that Wisconsin is a very appealing job but with so many coaches signing extensions and staying put they better hurry and start throwing around the $$$ to get the bigger names they are after.

  • I am not sure it is even possible from either side, but one would have to think that he may eventually want to go to place where the only thing that drops from the sky is rain or even possibly snow. Not hammers.

As long as you have yourself convinced, that's the important thing.

I was referring to his lack of loyalty and plain outright lies (see miami dolphins tenure) , not his actual coaching abilitiy.

Actually know your facts before you start spewing BS. Saban told the owner of the Dolphins Wayne H. that he would serve out the rest of his contract if he wanted him to. Wayne told him that he was free to go if he decided to. You are extremely off base.

Yeah except when you start loosing 15 scholarships a year for a few years Golden's tune is going to change. You have already served up 2 bowls, so you have to know major scholarship reductions are also going to be on the way. Hell if its as bad as the booster claimed, another bowl could also be in the works...

    Actually...

"During the month of December 2006, Saban was repeatedly questioned by the media about the Alabama job, and he repeatedly denied the rumors in his weekly press conferences, stating on December 21 "I guess I have to say it. I'm not going to be the Alabama coach."

  • lol 15 schollys...pass what you're smoking...so far only proof NCAA has is some restaurant receipts from a convicted felon which cannot be verified and are past the statute of limitations. Considering they only supsened a handful of player for what amounted to less than 5k in benefits and they've resorted to threatening old players to testify they clearly are reaching. At very worst they slap us 10 and hope the former players or school doesnt sue them for defamation. (convicted felons testimony is a weak leg to stand on)

  • I expect Paul Chryst to get the job (good hire)... Golden is an excellent coach though so I don't blame them for trying.

Best of luck in your search. Always been a fan of Wisconsin.. Beautiful place.

Golden is better then Jimbo... I feared it was true. He is going to hoist a crystal ball there - fsufsu

Honesty, no clue. I hope he isn't serious about that cause that severely limits out options. Maybe throw out the Rutgers coach?

If God dwells inside us, like some people say, I sure hope He likes enchiladas, because that's what He's getting

  • I don't think he said he's only going after current head coaches. But if he is then that only leaves golden and Peterson and both of them are long shots.

he did say that. at least initially that is his approach.

  • Said he would start with head coaches.

Basically he reached out to people to help Chryst get that job and they took his word. Doesn't want to then go back and take him. Also knows it wouldn't be the right thing to do. He said Paul will stay at Pitt.

Said when asked directly that his initial search will involve only those with head coaching experience. Not to say he won't hire an assistant, but that is his preferred approach. He had a short list of guys he started working right away and one of those he had in his hotel room in NY 5 mintues after Bert told him he took the job. asked about Chris Petersen on the Dan Patrick show and said he hasn't talked to him (thought he was locked in at BSU) but may reach out to him. through his AD of course.

I think you could do better than "the Rutgers coach"... I'd put Butch Jones over him easily. There are several viable coordinators who I think would make great coaches (Bob Diaco in particular) if Alvarez decided to go that route.

IMO if Chryst is out I'd have to think Darrell Bevell would be pretty high up on the list.

  • in terms of Golden must of us know that in normal circumstance there would be zero chance. what we don't know is what affect the current landscape has on that situation.

i agree and if this works out where Butch Jones is our "fallback" we are doing all right.
