A.J. Natter Commits to Nebraska

  • Commit No. 4 is in

Nebraska picked up its fourth commit of the 2013 class with the verbal pledge of Wisconsin defensive end A.J. Natter.

    Wisconsin. Badgers.

    KyleHeikkinen

  • Wasn't going to get 3 of the guys anyways. If anything, shows Chikwe and Alec that they're our priority. Come on home boys!

If God dwells inside us, like some people say, I sure hope He likes enchiladas, because that's what He's getting

    Wolfie

  • In my mind, Natter's recruitment is far from over. The Wisconsin staff will continue to pursue Natter.

Melvin Gordon and Konrad Zagzebski were early pledges to Big Ten schools but ended up in Madison.

    Wisconsin. Badgers.

    KyleHeikkinen

  • Preferred Chikwe and Alec anyway. Still kind of stings to let in-state talent go, but I don't think he was a guy anybody really wanted.

    FullMontee

  • Keep the recruitment up, produce on the field, and we'll see where he is at come signing day.

  • I think this is one of the negatives of adding Nebraska to the Big Ten. They have really shifted their recruiting into Big Ten country. It's doubtful they would have recruited Wisconsin prior to joining the Big Ten.

I don't see Natter flipping back to Wisconsin. He was pretty adamant that he wouldn't do that. But he is 17 or 18 years old. If you are a defensive guy I guess Nebraska is not a bad choice.

Might be irrelevant considering Wisconsin sits very well with James, Obasih, Nelson, and Quessenberry

In-State kids trumps Nelson and Quessenberry. No debate.

Natter is arguably the top player in-state, they will continue recruiting him hard. Even if James and Obasih commit.

Looking at film, I'd rather take any of the above. We need the speedier ends. No disrespect intended toward A.J., from all accounts I've heard he's an incredibly nice kid and will grow to be an incredible young man, but let's hope for Chikwe and Alec.

I'm saying if they commit then Natter will be forgotten.

  • Do you guys get the feeling that maybe the Badgers offered Watt too early?

    PDCBalla

  • I don't trust us to close Nelson or Quessenberry. I know we need some tackles to go with these ends, but 3 kids this talented in your backyard need to be Badgers... Hopefully we can get Chikwe and Alec locked up, and they can start doing some recruiting.

  • Personally I think this is going to be a two for package, they seem like they are good friends and want to play together. Hopefully Wisconsin can lock up one and will more than likely lock the second up.

    PDCBalla

  • Evan/Kyle, can you confirm if this is an upset for the Badgers or is this something where the Coaching staff wasn't recruiting Natter all that hard and he simply wasn't ready to wait?

I've not gotten the sense that Natter is very interested in UW and I'm holding out very little hope for a flip. And how do you give him a scholarship if James and Obasih both commit? Can't do it with the #'s currently available.

Kyle had a nugget on him the V.I.P. room a while back I believe where Natter really didn't feel obligated to stay at home, so I don't think we're surprised.

I've been saying for a while, I didn't think Wisconsin would get all three and I labeled Natter as the guy most likely to leave the state. I guess no surprise from me, but still an upset anytime another school can pull an in-state kid away from Wisconsin.

Wisconsin was still recruiting him. They wanted him. Great job by the Huskers obviously. As Kyle said, this isn't over though as long as UW still has spots left.

  • He was never all that high on Wisconsin. He made comments about the coaching changes, and even before had made statements about how he loved Nebraska when he first visited. It's too bad, but it's going to happen.

Yeah, nobody wanted him..... except, you know.... Wisconsin, Nebraska, Iowa, Michigan State, Purdue, Missouri, Minnesota, and Vanderbilt. Best offer list in the class.

Different position. Watt was offered well after Natter. They didn't impact one another in any way.

Did he actually mention the coaching changes? If so looks like he was looking for a reason to justify leaving as none of the defensive staff have changed really. Some kids just want to get away from home.

Question to those who know, when are the practice facility upgrades scheduled to be completed. Fall of 2014? or is it further off yet?

I remember he must have read the boards because he then called or texted that he was not ruling out Wisconsin after fans were upset.

He grew up close, obviously knew the city and team (visited for many games), and chose not to come. It's his choice.

I know I got blasted for daring to suggest this about 2 months ago, but this is going to be how it is. With digital tech and huge recruiting budgets thanks to TV money, everyone is known and can get offers from anywhere. Wisconsin suffers from both brain drain and youth moving away to go to "the big city" (wherever people think that happens to be). Why would football be any different? More and more in state kids will have chances to leave, and some will. Loyalty and State pride? This is the 21st century, and no one cares any more.

I don't think the brain drain issue has much to do with lack of state pride/loyalty or changing attitudes. I grew up in Madison, attended the UW for both undergrad and grad school and had to leave because there weren't any jobs in my field in Wisconsin....still aren't. When there aren't opportunities in your home state (Wisconsin was hit by the recession and hasn't taken part in the modest recovery) you simply have to leave. The UW graduates 10,000+ students a year and the state has been losing jobs. I'm now in the Phoenix area and it f'ing sucks. Not being able to attend Badgers games (didn't miss a single football home game for 15+ years) is killing me.

**RECRUITS: disregard everything I say. I don’t represent the UW fanbase and am not qualified to assess the UW’s coaches or future success**
