Jones committed to Wisconsin Wednesday.
Hyattsville (Md.) DeMatha Catholic Wide Receiver Chris Jones delivered some big and rather unexpected news Wisconsin's way on Wednesday. Jones, who had Maryland and Wisconsin has his top two choices, committed to the Badgers, per his head coach, and will join his DeMatha teammate Taiwan Deal in Madison next season.
Jones had offers from Boston College, Cincinnati, UConn, Hawaii, Iowa, Nebraska, Maryland, Wake Forest, and Wisconsin among others. The three-star wide receiver has yet to visit Madison, but was slated to make an official visit the weekend of October 25 during his bye week.
“Chris is a very, very good wide receiver,” DeMatha coach Elijah Brooks told 247Sports national insider Steve Wiltfong. “On a team full of talent, a lot of times he gets overlooked but he’s a big target that runs like a gazelle and can stretch the field. A smart, physical receiver and at the end of the day they’re getting a great competitor.
Ranked as the nation's No. 51 ranked wide receiver per the 247 composite, Jones registered 45 catches for 800 yards and seven touchdowns last season.
Jones, who was recruited by Assistant Coach Chris Beatty, is Wisconsin's 13th commitment in the class of 2014.
“It was down to two schools, Wisconsin and Maryland," Brooks told Wiltfong. "He loved them both. But from day one, Coach Beatty, the position coach from Wisconsin has shown how valuable Chris can be to the Wisconsin program. That connection made Chris want to make his decision so he could move forward with the season.”
