Coach Speak: Jordan Hill

Jordan Hill

Jordan Hill

What type of player is Wisconsin getting in 2013 Shooting Guard Jordan Hill? His Head Coach from BTI Pump N' Run Robert Icart weighs in on the matter.

    • Seems like the definition of a project, but without a super high ceiling. Definitely a head-scratcher at this point, because it seems from that interview that Bo/Gard only saw him play two games. He's also been at prep school for a year now after high school, so it's hard to believe that he's still "developing" like you might see with other, younger prospects.

This year will be his first year at prep school to my understanding. He's also only 17 right now.

    • Sounds like he has some Jordan Taylor-like intangibles. That's a good start, hopefully the basketball skills are there as well.

Evan, a few follow-up questions. Do you how tall Hill is? Most places show 6'3", but I also saw 6'5" somewhere.

Also, any idea how athletic he is? It would be great to have someone like Michael Flowers in the backcourt again.

Finally, is he expecting playing PG? Or more off the ball? I would think PG would be pretty well covered for the foreseeable future with Marshall and Koenig in the pipeline.

    • He's probably 6-3 ish, maybe a little bigger. I think he's 6-5 on his profile here, but I'll change that.

Second one I can't answer. I've never seen him play.

His coach says he can play both guard spots. So he'll probably play the 2 at Wisconsin.

The offer came after watching in Chicago (those two games you describe) but I believe the staff watched him later on in Vegas.

As Evan pointed out, he's young for his class (turns 18 in Dec). While two classes ahead of Alberts, I believe that Hill is only a few weeks older than Alberts. Hill has a lot of potential development ahead of him. Nobody would question that if he was heading into his senior year with the same birthday.

Flowers has come to my mind as a comparison too but I'd love to see extended video to validate.

One thing to keep in mind here, and this is a glass half-full comment, is that I don't think Hill was a "need" offer. Bo and Gard just grabbed a player that they both liked. If we had not watched Hill in July, I would not be surprised if the staff would have signed four players this year (yes, I assume we'll sign two bigs this fall as well). I think that speaks positively regarding how Bo and Gard feel about Hill.

Thank you for that clarification. I thought that I read that he reclassified to 2013 from 2012. This makes more sense now.

    • And lol to whoever downvoted my post. I mean, I don't care about my rating, but how the hell did that offend anyone? Seriously, pop a midol. No need for those vag-cramps to get you down.

    • Yeah not very encouraging when his AAU coach said Bo walked in at just the right time.... and that Hill played the best game basically of his career. Really dont know what to think of this to be honest but then again people thought decently highly of Evan Anderson and he turned out to be awful so hopefully Hill can be the exact opposite of that!

Isn't Evan Anderson a Sophomore this upcoming year? Kinda hard to judge a kid who hasn't had his turn yet.

    • Well seeing him play or should I say not play coming from someone who was rated pretty high coming out of high school says a lot to me... not to mention hearing from a very good source that he was wondering if his scholarship would be taken away...The kid is big but just doesnt have the speed or athleticism to play D1 IMO but someday im sure he will tear it up in some rec basketball league.

    • I'm excited for Jordan and hope he does defy the critics, but I really hate this offer.

He will be a rotation player, before the end.

You could say the same thing about hill and dearring. you aren't giving them a chance and they haven't even stepped foot on campus. I'd much rather take a flier on a guard/wing than a big white stiff.
